Google announced this week that starting October 25, it will end support and software updates for the first and second generation Nest Learning Thermostats. Additionally, the company will stop launching new Nest products in Europe altogether.
This means that Nest thermostats released in 2011, 2012, and the 2014 European model will no longer receive updates, and they will lose support in both the Nest and Google Home apps. However, users will still be able to control temperature settings and schedules directly from the devices themselves.
“To focus fully on future advancements and deliver the latest features on our newest Nest thermostats, we’re phasing out support for three of our oldest models, each now over a decade old,” Google explained.
Regarding the halt on new Nest launches in Europe, Google cited the continent’s “unique heating systems and diverse hardware and software needs,” which make it difficult to design products that work across all European homes. Current Nest devices will continue to be available in Europe while inventory lasts.
