Anysphere, Maker of AI Coding Tool Cursor, Secures $900M in New Funding at $9B Valuation
AI startup Anysphere, the developer behind the AI-powered coding assistant Cursor, has raised $900 million in a new funding round led by Thrive Capital, according to The Financial Times, which cited unnamed sources familiar with the deal.
Top-tier investors Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Accel are also backing the round, which reportedly values Anysphere at approximately $9 billion.
This marks a significant jump from the company’s previous valuation. In December, TechCrunch reported that Anysphere raised $105 million—also led by Thrive and a16z—at a $2.5 billion valuation. Altogether, the company has raised more than $173 million, per Crunchbase data.
Investor interest is heating up. Firms like Index Ventures and Benchmark are said to be eager to join the cap table, though Anysphere’s existing backers appear just as determined to maintain their stakes.
The broader space of AI coding tools is also drawing attention. In February, TechCrunch noted that Windsurf, a competing startup, was in talks to raise funds at a $3 billion valuation. OpenAI—already an investor in Anysphere—was reportedly exploring an acquisition of Windsurf at around the same valuation.
