Atari Launches Nostalgia-Packed Smartwatch That Plays Classic Games

Atari is diving into the wearable tech scene—but not by trying to rival the Apple Watch. Instead, the company is leaning into retro appeal with the Atari 2600 My Play Watch, a smartwatch designed for fun and nostalgia over high-end functionality.

Priced at $79.99 and available now for preorder through Atari’s online store, the watch is expected to ship by June 10, 2025. It features Atari 2600-style visuals, customizable watch faces, and classic arcade sound effects. Most notably, it lets users play vintage favorites like Centipede, Pong, Super Breakout, and Missile Command directly on the touchscreen—or by using the crown dial as a paddle controller.

Rather than offering extensive smart features, the watch includes just the basics: step counting, calorie tracking, and heart rate monitoring. There’s no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi support, meaning no phone notifications or the ability to download apps or new games. It’s more of a nostalgic fitness tracker than a productivity tool.

If it feels familiar, that’s because it’s a follow-up to the Space Invaders My Play Watch launched via Kickstarter last September. The Atari 2600 version carries over much of the same functionality but brings a few improvements: a slightly larger 2.02-inch touchscreen, a more robust metal casing, and a new button below the crown for extra control.

Each unit comes with three interchangeable watch bands featuring retro Atari artwork—though Atari says these will only be available for a limited time.
