Trump Signals He May Delay TikTok Ban Again
Former President Donald Trump has already postponed a TikTok ban twice—and he’s open to doing it a third time.
In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, as reported by Axios, Trump said he’s willing to extend the current June 19 deadline for ByteDance to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations to an American buyer.
“Maybe I shouldn’t say this, but I have a little warm spot in my heart for TikTok,” Trump admitted during the interview.
A law passed by Congress last year mandates that TikTok be banned in the U.S. unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, divests ownership of the app. The platform briefly vanished in January when the law took effect, but Trump stepped in to delay enforcement for 90 days. At the time, he expressed support for a possible joint venture that would include U.S. investors.
When that first extension expired in April, Trump granted another 75-day delay, noting resistance from the Chinese government, which must sign off on any potential deal. He cited tensions over “Reciprocal Tariffs” as part of the challenge.
