Samsung Reinvents Bixby as a Conversational AI Agent With Live Web Search

Samsung has upgraded Bixby into a conversational AI agent, marking a major shift in how mobile assistants function. The new version is currently available on devices running the One UI 8.5 beta, introducing real-time answer capabilities. A key highlight is integration with AI search engine Perplexity, enabling live web queries without opening a browser. Samsung says the rollout has begun in select countries and will expand globally once the stable One UI 8.5 release arrives.

Samsung has unveiled a major update to Bixby, transforming it from a traditional command-based assistant into a conversational AI agent. The shift reflects a broader industry trend in which voice assistants are evolving into intelligent interfaces capable of natural dialogue and contextual understanding.

The new version, currently available on devices running the One UI 8.5 beta, introduces real-time web search capabilities. Through integration with the Perplexity engine, users can ask questions directly and receive updated answers without launching a browser.

Another significant improvement is enhanced natural language comprehension. Users can now control Galaxy devices using natural spoken commands rather than memorizing exact setting names, indicating deeper system-level AI integration.

The interface has also been redesigned, displaying conversation history in a chat-style layout. This allows users to revisit previous interactions and continue discussions in a way similar to modern chatbot platforms.

iTDAY Analysis: Bixby’s transformation signals intensifying competition in the mobile AI assistant market. Instead of incremental feature additions, manufacturers are repositioning assistants as central operating layers. If Samsung delivers reliable real-time search and contextual reasoning, Bixby could re-emerge as a serious contender in the next generation of AI-driven interfaces.

The updated assistant is currently rolling out in selected regions, with broader availability expected alongside the stable One UI 8.5 release.
