According to a report from The Verge, the General Services Administration (GSA), which oversees federal government-owned buildings, is set to deactivate its entire network of electric vehicle chargers. The GSA currently manages a network consisting of hundreds of EV chargers, featuring a total of 8,000 plugs available for use by government vehicles and federal employees’ cars. A source informed The Verge that federal employees will receive instructions next week regarding the shutdown of these chargers, with some regional offices already directed to take their charging stations offline.
Earlier this week, Colorado Public Radio revealed an internal email indicating that the charging stations at the Denver Federal Center would be closed as they are deemed “not mission critical.” This decision reflects a broader trend under President Donald Trump’s administration, which has been actively reducing the size of government agencies and scaling back federal support for renewable energy initiatives, including an EV charging infrastructure program that once allocated significant funds to Tesla.
