Uber for Teens has officially launched in Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai, as confirmed by the company to TechCrunch. Uber plans to extend this service to 35 additional cities in the coming weeks, including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune.

This service enables parents and guardians to create accounts for their teenagers, aged 13 to 17, allowing them to request rides directly from their own devices. Key features include live trip tracking and optional audio recording. Guardians have the ability to book rides for their teens and can set monthly trip limits to manage the number of rides taken. To invite a teenager to their family profile, guardians in India must link a credit or debit card to their account. Once a teenager is added, both guardians and teens can use any payment method, including cash, for ride bookings.

Additionally, teens are permitted to bring riders aged 13 to 17 with them, although the specifics of how consent will be managed for this remain unclear. Uber has also stated that it will implement enhanced background checks on drivers for this service.

This launch follows nearly two years after the introduction of Uber for Teens in the U.S. and Canada, as the company aims to expand its presence in India and compete with local rivals such as Ola, Rapido, Namma Yatri, and BluSmart. Currently, Uber for Teens operates in about 50 countries, according to the company’s Q4 results released last month. In some markets, Uber has also introduced separate profiles for teenagers, allowing them to pay using their own payment options, including cash.

In recent months, Uber has rolled out various features tailored to the evolving transportation needs of Indian users, such as concurrent rides, flexible pricing, and prepaid item pickups. The company has also eliminated commissions on auto-rickshaw bookings, replacing them with a daily subscription fee.
